How Our Telugu Typing Engine Works

A transparent look under the hood: longest-match rule engine, Unicode NFC normalization, word counting math, and zero-telemetry client privacy.

1. Longest-Match Greedy Phonetic Mapping

Unlike simple single-character replacers that break on diphthongs or aspirated consonants, FastTeluguTyping employs a rule-based longest-match parser. When a user types a Roman Latin sequence:

  • The engine evaluates multi-character consonant matches first (e.g. ksha before kh before k).
  • When two consonants occur in sequence without an intervening vowel (such as mm or st), the engine automatically injects the Telugu Virama (Halant U+0C4D) to construct the joined conjunct shape (e.g. మ్మ, స్త).
  • Output strings are normalized to Unicode NFC (Canonical Composition), preventing phantom spaces or detached vowel signs across different operating systems.

2. Speed (WPM) & Akshara Calculation Standard

Measuring typing speed in Indian languages requires scientific standardization:

Words Per Minute (WPM) Formula:
WPM = (Total Keystrokes or Characters ÷ 5) ÷ Elapsed Minutes

Because Telugu words vary from short particles to 25-character compound nouns, counting space-separated words causes wild fluctuations in speed scores. Following international typing standards and technical board guidelines, 5 characters represent one standardized word.

3. Zero-Knowledge Privacy & Client Execution

Your personal typing data, private messages, and legal drafts are never transmitted across the network. All transformation logic runs locally inside your browser's JavaScript environment. Even if your internet connection disconnects after the page loads, the typing engine continues to function smoothly offline.
